Buriti Oil

Buriti is an oil that is produced from the moriche palm tree fruit deep in the Amazon swamps of South America. The palm tree is quite unique, with a brown hard scaly exterior shell and a yellow pulp. Buriti oil (like most natural gifts from earth) has a long history of being used not only as a remedy for skin conditions but also as traditional medicine and for nutrition. It is one of the highest sources of natural beta-carotene (naturally occurring retinol – Vitamin A). It even surpasses carrot seed oil! This key ingredient makes Buriti oil a super power when it comes to problematic, dry or irritated skin. It naturally soothes and intensely moisturizes the skin.

How is it produced?

Similar to Argan Oil, women operating in collectives are the key producers of Buriti oil. Women harvest the palm tree fruits and soaked them in water to make it easier to peel. Water causes the outer brown scales to become soft and easy to scrape off by hand. A long labor intensive process. The last step in the processing is grinding the yellow pulp of the fruit and using cold-press technique to slowly extract its yummy goodness!Buriti Oil
